  The gorges themselves are stunning. We hired canoes and very much enjoyed gently paddling through such magnificent natural beauty. The system of queuing to check in for hiring the canoe then waiting for approx 50 people to get their life jackets and paddles then queue while ONE staff member allocates and assists people into each canoe and then the same in reverse at the end of the hiring period is an absolute pain in the backside!!

  The gorge is spectacular and is surrounded by some pretty desolate but beautiful sandstone escarpments covered in boulders. Lots of walking options. There is a five km circuit walk that includes a good lookout into the gorge. I also did a 12 km walk to butterfly gorge. Strongly recommend for the lovely rainforest inside the gorge, fill of butterflies, and the chance to swim in Katherine gorge. Wish I'd had the time for other walks here.

  We stayed at the Gorge for just over a week and enjoyed every minute. All the staff we met were friendly, professional and knowledgeable about the area and the local people and clearly enjoyed their job. This is not a place to rush into take a few pics and then dash on to the next photo op!! Take your time, go for a tour, listen to your guide, ask questions and enjoy the ride. At the end take a helicopter ride over the Gorge for a different perspective and get an understanding of the size of Nitmiluk National Park (thanks Matt). Special thanks to Carly who couldn’t do enough for us and made our stay very special.
